Diligence Departs

Seventy-five members of the United States Coast Guard said their goodbyes a few hours ago in Downtown Wilmington.

The Coast Guard will be leaving for two months on the cutter ‘Diligence.’

The crew was busy packing and making final preparations for the voyage today.

They are heading south to Key West and the Caribbean, on a mission to protect and serve our country.

“Our missions are search and rescue, law enforcement, fisheries. We do everything. It just depends on what happens when we get down there,” Said John Holmes, a member of the US Coast Guard team who is departing with the Diligence cutter.

The Coast Guard members are expected to return in mid-August.

We’ll let you know what they accomplished on their missions when they return.
