Diver medevaced by USCG dies at Dosher Memorial

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — The diver who went missing 36 miles southeast of Masonboro Island yesterday has died.

A spokesman for the USCG confirms the diver was pronounced dead at Dosher Memorial Hospital.

The Coast Guard received word about a missing diver around noon yesterday. They say the person who called in for help ended up diving into the water and finding the missing diver.

A Coast Guard helicopter medevaced the diver to an awaiting airfield in Southport, where an ambulance took the diver to Dosher Memorial Hospital.

The Coast Guard has not released the identity of the diver.
