Diverging diamond work means weekend-long road closure in Leland
LELAND, NC (WWAY) — Work to change a traffic pattern near Leland and Belville will shut down the road between the two towns for an entire weekend.
The NCDOT says it will shut down NC 133 between the exit ramps to US 17/74/76 from 9 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, through 6 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 15.
The closure is part of the work to convert that section of Village Road/River Road to diverging diamond pattern, which planners say will ease traffic in the area by shifting traffic to the opposite side of the road to access the causeway and reduce the number of traffic lights traffic has to go through.
The DOT says signs will direct drivers to a detour, but details of that detour have not yet been released.
The diverging diamond is expected to be ready some time this month.
