Do you know your driver’s handbook?

WILMINGTON — Driving is second nature for so many of us, but when it comes to the rules of the road, are you up to speed?

A viewer contacted WWAY after looking over a North Carolina driver’s handbook. He was surprised to learn how many rules have changed since getting his first license more than 40 years ago.

Doug Scalzo is preparing to take his commercial driving test and says there’s plenty he has forgotten over the years, as well as laws he didn’t know.

Marsha Harris is the senior examiner at a Wilmington DMV. She and Scalzo both say it’s not a bad idea to pick up a handbook to review to keep up with current driving laws.

Harris says people are often surprised when they fail their driver’s test, especially those who have been driving for years.

Remember that driving laws do vary from state to state so if you’re new to the area and need to get your license, definitely look over the handbook.
