Donkeys join Poplar Grove Plantation, add cuteness and protection
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Poplar Grove Plantation’s Animal Sanctuary, cared for in part by one of our Extraordinary People of the Week, now has two new donkeys.
The donkeys will not only be a part of the live stock at the Animal Sanctuary, but Sherry Brink says they will also act as guard animals for the other animals at Poplar Grove Plantation.
The two additions are a mother and baby, Luna and Truffles, and you can meet them at Poplar Grove Plantation on February 13th from 11am to 1pm.
Poplar Grove is home to a wide range of farm animals. Sherry Brink says while fencing surrounds the barnyard, predators such as coyotes and foxes have managed to enter the yard. She says large ears and a wide range of vision give donkeys an advantage over those intruders and that their territorial nature leads them to be confrontive when faced with a threat.
