Dosher Memorial Hospital receives historic grant

BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — The Dosher Memorial Hospital received its largest grant ever today in the form of 450 thousand dollars from the Duke Endowment.

The money will be used to  launch the Brunswick County Community Wellness Coalition.

Coalition president Lynda Stanley said that it will work to improve the health of patients and residents in the area, while working to find where the issues stem from and prevent them.

“We really want to uncover the real reason that we’re having some of the areas of diabetes that we have, some of the heart disease issues that we’re having, the obesity in the community. We want to really peel the onion and get to the root of the problem, and then put some things in place so that we can make gains on improving the health of the community,” Stanley said.

The Dosher Memorial Hospital is the first critical access hospital to receive a grant from the Duke Endowment.
