DOT working around the clock

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — While many had the day off due to the weather, the snow and ice on the roads prompted the North Carolina Department of Transportation to work all day. Workers are still out making sure the roads are safe.

WWAY spoke with the DOT District Engineer for New Hanover and Brunswick Counties. Anthony Law says crews are working throughout the night. There are approximately 12 trucks on the roads in New Hanover and Brunswick Counties.

“We are plowing and placing salt as needed throughout the counties in the areas we have accumulations of snow and ice,” said Law.

Law said primary routes are cleared first, and then crews will move on to smaller roads. DOT, along with emergency officials are urging you to stay off the roads. If you must drive, use extreme caution…numerous accidents have already been reported.
