DOT hopes bridge painting done by year’s end

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The Cape Fear Memorial Bridge is a fixture in the Port City, but a project to keep the bridge in tip-top condition is not exactly running on schedule.

The bridge was supposed to be repainted by September 30, but it still sits unfinished. The DOT says the contractor was working on another project, and that led to a late start on painting the bridge.

The bridge is draped with sheets, and some folks think it’s marring the Wilmington skyline.

“It seems to still be an eyesore, and I hope they can get it done soon,” Jennifer Surovuy of Wilmington said. “It’s a project that overdue by like a month now at least, right?”

The DOT says it hopes to have the project finished by the end of the year.
