Downtown Wilmington artwork receives international accolades

There were international accolades for the city of Wilmington’s pedestrian art. The project has been in place for three years and has aimed to enhance the downtown area with unique and interesting artwork.

Artwork has been rotated in and out of the area every six months; four pieces are on display right now.

The Port City submitted its art project to an international board for review. John Hinnant of Wilmington Downtown Inc. said, “Our organization submitted the application. We were one of over eighty applications considered. So it was fairly prestigious. There were communities from Canada and Europe that have won awards as well, so it’s a pretty high distinction and its something to be quite proud of.”

Downtown Wilmington plans to continue the artwork program into the future. The city will soon be receiving a plaque recognizing the achievement.
