Downtown Wilmington decorated with new art

Out with the old, in with the new: downtown Wilmington is now decorated with new pedestrian art.

Five new statues can be found scattered around the streets of the city. The Pedestrian Art program has been in place for three years. It aims to enhance the downtown area with unique and interesting artwork.

The displays are rotated every six months. The current artist hopes his art sparks an interest.

“Well I hope they take an interest in the fact that it arises some curiosity in them. So that they are able to look at it, and form their own opinions,” said artist Paul Hill. “I have my own ideas when I make them, but I also enjoy letting people make up their own minds about what they stand for.”

Some of the highlights of this current display include a large Venus flytrap in front of the post office, as well as a goat perched on high at the corner of Third and Chestnut.
