Dreaming of a green Christmas

It’s unlikely southeast North Carolina will experience a white Christmas this year. But environmental conservationists are hoping more people will make it a green Christmas.

UNCW professor Roger Shew wants to encourage people to reduce, reuse and recycle this holiday season.

Shew recommends using recycled or recyclable Christmas cards.

Shew says you can also use LED Christmas lights instead of regular lights to save energy.

“It turns out that the nation has gone kind of crazy for these. The Rockefeller as well as the national Christmas tree are decorated with these,” Shew said.

Shew also recommends recycling your Christmas tree. Most counties provide the service for free. Call you local trash collector to find out if this service is available in your area.
