‘Drive-Thru Ashes’ for Ash Wednesday offered at Wilmington church
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Today is Ash Wednesday and one Wilmington church made the first day of Lent as convenient as possible.
Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church has been doing “Ashes To Go” for three years letting worshipers receive ash to their foreheads without event getting out of their cars.
Associate Pastor Adam Baker says around 50 people pulled up to give thanks, pray and get anointed with a cross.
He says it’s a beautiful way to connect with others and give a reminder of Jesus’ love.
“Kind of step outside of the church walls in a way and invite people to come in the midst of their day to know God’s mercy and love even in the midst of their lunch hour or while their going to work or to and from work,” Baker said.
The church welcomed everyone to come by their ashes drive thru.
It is also having a service at 6:30 p.m. to continue celebrating Ash Wednesday.
