Driver facing DWI charges after child struck by vehicle in Leland

LELAND, NC (WWAY) – An 11-year-old girl has been taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center after being hit by a vehicle in Leland.

Leland Police Chief Mike James says he’s been told by his officers on the scene that the girl’s injuries are not life-threatening.

Chief James says he was told it happened on North Palm Drive in Mallory Creek Plantation.

Chief James says one person is in custody for DWI.

WWAY has a crew heading to the scene. We’ll have more information when it becomes available.
