Drug maker to pay $1.2 million to NC in settlement
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Attorney General Roy Cooper says North Carolina will get more than $1 million in a multi-state settlement involving claims of flawed drug manufacturing at a plant in Puerto Rico.
Cooper said Thursday that drug maker GlaxoSmithKline has agreed to pay nearly $41 million to 37 states and the District of Columbia to settle the case. Cooper and the other state attorneys general claimed the facility used substandard manufacturing processes in making a number of drugs.
In a statement, the company said it settled the case to avoid lengthy and expensive litigation, and did not admit to any wrongdoing.
The company closed the plant in 2009 and sold it a year later.
Earlier this year, North Carolina got nearly $12 million in a separate settlement involving Glaxo.
