DSS employee facing embezzlement charges fired

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The New Hanover County Department of Social Services employee who was arrested last month is now out of a job.

According to County Spokeswoman Ruth Smith, Angelina Bernard was arrested in late November and charged with 11 counts of embezzlement. She’s accused of taking about $8,600 from the county, according to warrants.

Smith said Bernard was terminated as of December 7.
