Duke Energy will not bill customers for taxes
RALEIGH, NC (AP) — Duke Energy says it will not charge customers for corporate income taxes that it does not have to pay.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported that the Charlotte utility will not charge customers $19 million a year between Duke Energy Carolinas and Duke Energy Progress.
Company spokeswoman Lisa Parrish has said Duke Energy customers would have paid an extra 17 cents a month and Duke Progress customers would have paid an extra 9 cents a month if the utility followed a procedure authorized by the North Carolina Utilities commission.
The commission earlier this month said utilities could overcharge customers for taxes they are getting some relief from because of a decision by state lawmakers.
The attorney general has said he would appeal the decision allowing the overcharge.
