Durham hires new city manager from Pensacola, Fla.
DURHAM — Durham has a new city manager to replace the current top city executive who is leaving to become city attorney.
The Durham City Council voted Tuesday to hire Tom Bonfield, who has been city manager of Pensacola, Fla., since 1998. The Herald-Sun of Durham reports that Bonfield will take over no later than Sept. 1 to replace Patrick Baker.
Mayor Bill Bell said Bonfield will be paid $178,000 a year under a five-year contract.
