Durham probes police comments on Obama
DURHAM — Internal investigators are examining whether some Durham police officers posted derogatory remarks about President-elect Obama on their MySpace pages.
Police Chief Jose Lopez Sr. said the comments did not involve a racial slur, but he wouldn’t say what was written or how many officers are being investigated.
The News & Observer of Raleigh reported Wednesday that internal affairs specialists were alerted after a police department employee complained about the remarks.
Lopez said even though the remarks were made on a personal webpage, they could violate the department’s code of conduct.
MySpace is a social networking Web site that allows people to share information, chats, photos and videos to a network of friends.
