Early morning boaters need aid after boat collides off Masonboro Inlet
WRIGHTSVILLE BEACH, NC (WWAY) — An early morning collision outside the Masonboro Inlet left one boater stranded in need of a tow according to a local boat towing service.
At around 5:45 a.m., Saturday morning, TowBoatU.S. Wrightsville Beach received a call about a boat collision occurring approximately 37 miles off Masonboro Inlet.
A commercial vessel out of South Carolina collided with a 37’ sailing catamaran just before dawn according to a spokesperson for the company.
The sailing vessel, Voyager, had 3 people on board when the commercial vessel struck the back of the boat at an estimated 17 mph.
All involved are said to be in good condition.
TowBoatU.S. arrived on scene with pumps and emergency equipment and were able to safely tow the vessel to a facility in downtown Wilmington around 6:00 p.m.
