Early risers grab up Black Friday sales

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — The holiday shopping madness continues this Black Friday.

While a lot of people took advantage of Thanksgiving evening sales, many shoppers waited until the traditional start to the holiday season.

Folks got up before the crack of dawn to get in the stores and get a jump on holiday shopping.

“We started around like 2 o’clock in the morning,” said Nikki Mills. Mills and her sisters went out shopping for the first time as a group this year and she said it was a great bonding experience.

At Target on New Centre Drive, the crowds didn’t really start rolling in until after sun up, but that didn’t stop dedicated bargain hunters from getting there early with a shopping strategy.

“I thought it was gonna be packed but there’s no one here,” said Sawyer Royall of the morning crowds.

“We had it mapped out,” one shopper said. “We’re trying to hit up Target, and then probably Mayfaire and the mall. We’ll get it all done.”

Some shopper even schemed on Thanksgiving for the perfect Black Friday game plan.

Just as business offer deals to draw in shoppers, so is the City of Wilmington. The city is offering free street parking all weekend downtown to encourage shoppers to visit stores.
