Earth Day gets started early
Earth Day is officially Wednesday throughout the country, but here in Wilmington many kicked off what is looking more and more like Earth Week on Saturday.
Hundreds of people visited Hugh MacRae Park to celebrate.
This year’s theme is focused on transportation as the event showcased many alternate modes of transportation.
Green businesses and environmental organizations set up displays throughout the park to share information about how individuals can help keep the Earth clean.
“This whole week has been a build up for earth day, lots of green events happening in and around town and North Carolina. Everyone’s got the green bug,” said Matt Collogan of the Earth Day Alliance.
Collogan said he’s seen the event grow every year and this was the largest turnout yet. This marks the 19th year of Earth Day celebrations.
