Easley asks agencies to plan for spending cuts

Governor Mike Easley has asked state agencies to plan for additional spending cuts in case North Carolina’s economy worsens.

Wednesday, Easley ordered all state departments and other institutions to develop proposals on how they could reduce spending by three percent, five percent and seven percent.

The plans are due a few days after Governor-elect Bev Perdue takes office next month.
