Easley probe includes former Southport Mayor

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — A federal investigation into former Gov. Mike Easley now includes Southport’s former mayor.

A federal subpoena shows investigators want information about a contract Norman Holden had with the Department of Transportation. Holden served as a liaison between the DOT and businesses and citizens from 2002 to 2008. It paid him about $129,000 total.

Investigators also want information about Easley’s Southport home. The subpoena also listed former Southport Police Chief Jerry Dove and Wilmington DOT office head Allen Pope as “relevant parties.”
