The East Columbus baseball squad is the only high school team from our region still in contention for a state title this springs. The Gators sports a 22-4 record. They also have an impressive 15 game winning streak. In the history of East Columbus High School the Gators have never won a state title in a team sport. They’ve been to the state title before in baseball, but East Columbus lost in the state finals to East Rutherford. Karl Bracey is the East Columbus head coach. “These young men have worked hard to where they’ve gotten,” Bracey said. “We’ve got an experienced group coming back. We lost in the third round of the state playoffs after winning a few games. They came back with their minds set on getting to the state championship this year.”
