Easter arrives early at Maides Park

Just in time for Easter, the workers at Maides Park put together a scavenger egg hunt for disabled adults today. The program started three years ago with the number of participants growing each year.

They started off this morning with arts and crafts. Then they moved outside for their scavenger hunt. The staff members say they feel good about the turn out.

“Our staff members have worked really, really hard on trying to get events to be pulled off for the adults with disabilities, and so the responses from our agencies is that there is not a lot of activities going around in the city for adults with disabilities,” recreation supervisor Mary Jones said. “So it really really encouraged us to be more creative in what we can do for those particular agencies.”

Among other activities organizers hold an “Arts from the Heart” event for the adults every Tuesday and Thursday at the MLK Center and at Maides Park.
