Edwards releases tax plan
DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — Democratic presidential hopeful John Edwards today unveiled a plan to increase taxes on those in the upper brackets and create tax breaks for the middle class.
The former North Carolina senator told a group in Des Moines, Iowa, today the economy grows when the middle class grows.
Edwards says his plan would end tax breaks to what he called Washington insiders.
The remarks prepared for delivery this morning say neither Washington nor Wall Street are the engine of the economy. Edwards says the economy depends on what he calls the tens of millions of people who go to work every day.
Edwards says he would make savings easier for low income families with a "Get Ahead" credit that would match savings up to $500 per year.
