Elementary school could permanently close

COLUMBUS COUNTY — Columbus County Board of Education is making some important decisions about the fate of an elementary school.

The board may permanently close Fair Bluff Elementary.

The superintendent says the school’s been underperforming for years. Parents and community members voiced their opinions at a public meeting Thursday night.

The majority of parents said they did not want the school to close down.

If Fair Bluff Elementary closes the board will have to restructure the district and bus students to neighboring schools.
