Emergency landing at ILM Sunday
A private, chartered jet made an emergency landing at ILM early Sunday morning. The plane was flying from the Dominican Republic.
During the flight, strong headwinds forced the plane to use most of its fuel. While flying over Wilmington, the pilot needed to make an emergency landing around 3:00 a.m. The plane touched down on a grassy area just beyond the runway.
An airport spokesman said considering the dense fog, it was a miraculous landing. None of the four passengers and two crew members were injured.
Shortly after landing, the passengers booked a flight to LaGuardia, and were back at home in New York City Sunday afternoon.
