Employee charged after shooting in Jacksonville store
JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (AP) – Police say an employee at a Wal-Mart store tackled a gunman just before police arrived early Sunday.
Jacksonville Deputy Police Chief David Shipp said an employee became upset with other workers.
The Daily News of Jacksonville has reported that Shipp said the man brought a 12-gauge shotgun into the store, blackened his face and shot into the walls and ceiling of the store break room about 2:30 a.m.
Shipp said 18-year-old Elijah Payne was charged with assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, kidnapping, and discharging a firearm into occupied property. He said Payne was
being held under $75,000 bond.
Onslow County Sheriff Ed Brown said Payne would be appointed an attorney Monday at a first-appearance hearing.
