Employees say mental health provider closing offices, laying off 100 in Wilmington

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Reports of closings and layoffs at a Wilmington office that provides mental health and disability services.

We’ve received phone calls and emails from Preferred Alternatives Incorporated employees about all North Carolina branches of PAI closing. That would put about 100 employees out of work at the Wilmington office.

A meeting was held this afternoon at the company’s office on Market Street. Those present included PAI employees and representatives from RHA Health Services, which is a non-profit organization that also provides services for individuals with disabilities throughout North Carolina.

We tried to contact local and corporate PAI managers and employees as well as RHA, but no one responded. No one was willing to comment at all, and the meeting today was completely closed.

We also called the New Hanover County Department of Social Services to see how a closure would affect PAI clients. So far we have not heard back from DSS.

We’ll continue to search for answers and keep you updated.
