Empty Bowls event raises money, awareness

SOUTHPORT, NC (WWAY) — In Southport, the community came together for a soup lunch to raise awareness of hunger.

Empty Bowl organizers say 26 local restaurants donated the soup.

It cost $15 to attend, and people walked away with a bowl handmade my an area potter.

Proceeds benefit the Southport-Oak Island Interfaith Food Pantry, Matthew’s Ministry and Brunswick Family Assistance.

Organizers say they hope to give $7,000 to each charity.
