EMS students left uncertain after Brunswick Community College program suspension
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY)– Uncertainty surrounds the future of several EMS Students at Brunswick Community College after changes within the program and leadership.
The college confirms it has temporarily suspended its emergency medical program, leaving dozens of students unable to continue their education, for now.
WWAY reached out to program director Jerome Chip Munna and learned that the school did not renew his contract, which resulted int the suspension of the program.
Advanced EMT student Lexsie Black, says the news came as a shock to her and her classmates, who were told their summer courses have been cancelled with little additional information.
Black says the decision is especially difficult, adding that Munna Played a major role in helping students advance their careers and develop their skills in the field.
“Losing Chip, it was heartbreak to all of us. He pushed us to our max to fulfill this career and promises we’ve made to ourselves,” said Black. “This was the roughest semester. Spring semester is considered the hardest semester of this program, and the only reason we succeeded is because of what he brought to the, and his encouragement, and his as a human being.”
Black says she and several other students plan to leave Brunswick Community College and continue their education elsewhere.
The college tells WWAY
“We can confirm that the EMS program is temporarily suspended. We are actively working to resume the program as soon as possible and remain committed to providing quality EMS education to our students and community.”
