Evacuations lifted for part of Bladen County

BLADEN COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — Emergency officials in Bladen County have made the decision to lift a voluntary evacuation that began yesterday.

A news release from Emergency Services Director Bradley Kinlaw says people who live near Burney Road and River Road may return at this time.

The county began a door-to-door evacuation of the homes between White Oak and Tar Heel yesterday morning.

River flooding continues to be a major concern in Bladen County and other parts of southeastern North Carolina in the wake of Hurricane Matthew. In Bladen County the issues due to the hurricane have forced the cancellation of school for the rest of the week.
