Evangelous pulls out of Savannah chief search

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Ralph Evangelous will stay in Wilmington for the time being.

A news release from the Wilmington Police Department late this afternoon says Chief Evangelous pulled out of the process to find a new chief in Savannah Friday.

“While I was truly honored at the invitation to be a part of this process, I have decided after much consideration and talk with my family to remain at the Wilmington Police Department,” Evangelous said in a statement. “Wilmington is my home, and I am committed to continuing our efforts to fight crime in this City.”

Evangelous had been named one of three finalists for the Savannah job. The city manager was expected to make an announcement on who the city would hire this week.
