Ex-principal gets probation for sex crimes with 3 boys
FAYETTEVILLE, NC (AP) — A former Cumberland County middle school principal who pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting three students has been sentenced to five years of supervised probation.
The Fayetteville Observer reports 51-year-old David Edwards pleaded guilty to three counts of indecent liberties with a child June 1. District Court Judge Claire Hill sentenced Edwards, who will be placed in the sex offender control program and registered as a sex offender.
Edwards was principal at Ramsey Street Alternative Middle and Douglas Byrd Middle schools before he abruptly resigned in August 2013. In October 2013, he was accused of abusing three boys who were 11 to 14 years old at the schools between 2009 and 2011. Investigators say he touched the boys and forced them to participate in sex acts.
