Exceptional classrooms get special donations
BRUNSWICK COUNTY, NC (WWAY) — There was a special donation Thursday for students in Brunswick County.
Members of the Southeast Civitan Club delivered iPads to the exceptional children classrooms at four schools in the county for the Civitan Apple Project: Leland Middle School, West Brunswick High School, Virginia Williamson and Waccamaw.
Each iPad comes loaded with educational apps. Angela Jarvis, an exceptional children’s classroom teacher, says the iPad will help keep her students engaged and focused.
“It benefits them because we can use it motivate them for positive behaviors,” she said. “And we can also use to give them access to different programs that are specifically designed for children with special needs.”
The Civitan Club has given away 12 iPads since they started two years ago.
Every year, the club holds an annual fundraiser called the Hometown Heroes Chili Cook-off to raise money for the cause. This year’s cook-off will be at the Oak Island Moose Lodge on October 25, from 12:30 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
