Ex-NC insurance commissioner hospitalized

RALEIGH — Former North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Jim Long has been taken to a hospital after collapsing at the Legislative building.

Current Insurance Commissioner Wayne Goodwin said Long collapsed outside a legislator’s office Wednesday afternoon.

Goodwin spokeswoman Kristin Milam said Long was taken to Rex Hospital in Raleigh, and Long’s private doctor was on his way there.

Long retired last year after serving 24 years as insurance commissioner, and Milam said the office was “very concerned and quite shaken up.”
