EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: 2016 Year in Review
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Every week WWAY features someone in the community who is doing extraordinary things. It’s been an up and down year in the headlines, but one guarantee is that you’ll find positive stories in the Extraordinary Person of the Week series. Here’s a look back at some of the folks who help make the Cape Fear so wonderful.
The first Extraordinary Person of the Week this year was an Urban Salvager. “A lot of times these little pieces end up in landfills, so I take and save them and this has turned into a 3-D wall.”
We also featured folks who rescue animals. “This is jabber jaw.”
People who keeps kids out of trouble, “There has been a lot of violence going on lately”.
A woman who brings old bears back to life. “Please do your best to make these as good as new.”
An inspiring writer. “When you put your heart out there, it’s going to get stepped on from time to time, but that’s okay.”
Local filmmakers. “So I’m like, are you okay, should I call 911. And my daughter is like, it’s just latex.”
Powerful women. “We want women to be powerful because we are powerful.”
A military caregiver.
A dentist. “I was able to see what they did for the very needy. I was like, I think, I would like this.”
An educator. “Know that there is no one else that can take your place.”
A retired NFL voice now residing in Leland. “You walk into an area, you walk into a stadium, and it’s a blank canvas. And you paint the picture.”
A bird man.
A military man.
A phantom of the Port City.
And a mission of mercy.
2016 has been full of positive people from right here in our area. And I promise you, we are going to continue to feature extraordinary folks from right here in our community in 2017 and the years to come. Happy New Year y’all!
