EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: Cheer-for-A

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A UNCW student is getting national attention from the boss of her boss. The CEO of Chick-fil-A surprised her with thousands of reasons to keep up her award winning ways. WWAY’s Daniel Seamans introduces us to the extraordinary person of the week.

Abby LaFave got quite the surprise at work. More on that surprise in a moment.

Abby LaFave is a busy young lady. She works full time at Chick-fil-A on Market Street. She’s a business management major at UNCW.
She spends her down time volunteering as a cheerleading coach at Roger Bacon Academy.
No doubt, it’s an exhausting schedule.

4-5 days a week I go volunteer coach,” Abby LaFave told Daniel Seamans. “One team in particular that I head coach and we’ve won multiple national championships over the past years. I also write all the routines for them to that they compete.”

“It’s been kind of stressful trying to figure out doing everything,” Abby said. “Really working hard to pay for school that’s why it is so a blessing to get this scholarship because I know now I won’t have to stress so much about trying to pay for school and working.”

Which brings us back to her exciting day earlier this month at work. “They told me that our owner was getting an award, so they had all this stuff set up and I had no idea it was all for me,” she said.

“They handed me this sauce box, it looked like our Chick-fil-A sauce, it was just really big and it said Abby’s sauce. Obviously I knew something was going on but it still hadn’t hit me so then I opened it up. It was an ipad with the CEO of Chick-fil-a telling me I got this scholarship and then as soon as he said $25,000 that’ swhen it hit me and I just started crying.”

Only 12 Chick-fil-A employees throughout the country received the true inspiration scholarship for $25,000! So Cheer-for-A!!!

“I think it is going to pay for the rest of my school,” Abby said with a stress free smile.
