EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: The Port City’s ‘Pretty Little Secret’

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Music: It’s the one place you can both lose and find yourself at the same time. Our Extraordinary Person of the Week is a musician who grew up here in the Cape Fear. She’s won awards. She took some time off for family. Now Madonna Nash is back and better than ever.
I call her the Port City’s Pretty Little Secret.

“Big Jim, we go for a swim,” Madonna Nash joked as she walked a horse into the stable.

This is the tale of a country gal. “I was born and raised in Wilmington,” Nash told Daniel Seamans.
She’s motivated by song. “I grew up in a very musical family,” she said.
She is raising a musical family, too. (see video to watch her daughter, Asia, play guitar)

It seems following in momma’s footstep is a family tradition round here. “My dad played and toured all over,” Nash said. “My mom, she was a singer and played the piano, and my great great uncle was the founding president of the Country Music Association.”

By the time she was 21, Madonna Nash was in Nashville living the life of a country music artist.

“It’s really exciting,” Nash said thinking back. “You think, it’s everything you’ve ever wanted. It’s a lot of work.”

The work paid off. “The first single was a top 40 on the radio,” Nash recounted.

Dirty Little Secret, filmed in Wilmington, made numerous rounds in the country scene including on ABC’s tv show NASHVILLE.

Following some success, the local gal would take some time off from the spotlight to raise her two children back in the home town of Wilmington.
Then, as fate would have it, opportunity knocked.
“I was at home, a regular evening,” said Nash, “and I get an email from a fella at ABC and they were asking if they could use my song, Dirty Little Secret on the tv show Nashville, and boy, I’ll tell ya, that’s all it took.”

She was bit by the music bug again. Now this solo act is a duo. Madonna plays with Nashville’s own David Fair….a multi-talented musician as well.

The bands name is Nash and Fair. Some of their songs have ties to the military, like the recent release ‘Welcome Home’ which will be featured here next week.

Madonna Nash, what you do with music is extraordinary!

SIDENOTE: Nash and Fair’s song, ‘Welcome Home’, was written about a soldier who suffers from post traumatic stress disorder(PTSD).
All proceeds from the song go directly to four military based charities. Wednesday, December 3rd, you’ll meet the the military man who is the subject of the song and hear more about the making of their new song, ‘Welcome Home’ in Part 2 of this extraordinary mission.
