EXTRAORDINARY PEOPLE: Young Bosses United
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — There is a young woman in the Port City who is on a mission to help the homeless and youth. She wants to do so with the help of other young entrepreneurs in the area who each bring their own expertise to the table. Tavia Spencer is our Extraordinary Person of the Week!
Tavia Spencer is one focused young lady. She has a jewerly business, she’s a locktician at a hair salon, she works a 9-5 too, and if that’s not enough….she’s the founder of Young Bosses United.
“It’s a small group right now”, Spencer told WWAY’s Daniel Seamans, “and we’re under the age of 30 years old and so we’re basically branching together, sharing ideas of our experience.”
Spencer started the non-profit, Young Bosses United last year in Wilmington.
“We do different things for the youth, try to give them a different experience,” she said. “There has been a lot of violence going on lately, so we reach out to them to give them something to do.”
Something to do, like the upcoming Kings and Queens Ball. Two age brackets with one goal of giving kids something positive to do.
But kids aren’t the only ones to benefit from Tavia’s young bosses.
“YBU hits the streets,” Spencer said. “That’s where we go to the homeless people, find out where they are at. September(2015) was our first time and we fed, walked all through downtown carrying crates, so we fed probably around 20 people. (In) December we fed over a hundred.”
Small acts with huge impacts and as more young bosses join her mission and share ideas, greatness is in the making.
“I think that’s the important thing about being an entrepreneur,” Spencer said. “Make sure you are helping other people so you can get your blessing in return.”
You are a blessing, Tavia Spencer. What you do is extraordinary.
