Fallen New Hanover firefighter to be honored at national memorial Sunday

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A New Hanover County firefighter who died last year will be honored at a national event this weekend.

Capt. David Heath died during a training exercise one year ago this coming Tuesday.

He is one of 107 fallen firefighters who will be honored at the 2014 National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Service Sunday at the National Fire Academy in Emmitsburg, MD. You can watch the event live online starting at 10 a.m.

Heath was 48 when he died of an apparent heart attack. Hundreds of firefighters from around the region attended his funeral.
