Families enjoy 18th Century Christmas

WINNABOW, NC (WWAY) — For the sixth year, families could experience what it was like to celebrate Christmas in the 18th century at Fort Anderson in Brunswick County.

Activities included candle making, ornament decorating and fun and games for the whole family to enjoy.

The hope of organizers was that folks can relate to people from the past.

“If you try and look back to see how people lived 250 years ago and how they celebrated it, then you come to an understanding that they’re people just like you.” Program coordinator Shannon Walker said.

The guests say that they made that connection and learned in the process.

“It gives them some education, especially my kids,” John Shields, a visitor from Wilmington, said. “It shows them a part of Christmas other than getting presents.”

If you missed out on the fun this year, you’ll have to wait until next year to take a trip to the past as organizers say they hold this event the second Sunday in December every year.
