Family escapes house fire in New Hanover County

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — An evening fire damaged a home in the Kings Grant area.

New Hanover County firefighters with Wilmington crews assisting say around 8 p.m. Thursday they responded to a home at 1129 Cheryl Lane off of N. Kerr Ave. Crews put out the flames fairly quickly, but there is significant smoke damage.

The family did get out of the house unharmed and is being assisted by the Red Cross.

Neighboring houses were not damaged.

Investigators are trying to pinpoint where the fire started inside the home.
