Family friend of murder victim still in shock over shooting

WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — A shooting last night at Jungle Rapids is now a murder investigation.

A 19-year-old is dead and Wilmington Police are searching for a suspect.

The parking lot of Jungle Rapids, a family amusement park, turned into a crime scene Wednesday night when 19-year-old Christopher White was shot and killed.

Billie Edwards is a friend of White’s family.  She said she is still in shock about what happened.

“That was mind blowing, and I just couldn’t believe that it happened at such a family place like that,” Edwards said.

While police haven’t said what could have led to the shooting, witnesses told them a man was seen running from the parking lot.

“I mean anybody could of gotten hit. People seen the guy running, running out of the parking lot. I mean just like why? My thing is why ya know, why did this have to happen,” Edwards said.

Edwards hopes people remember White like she does.

“Chris was a very happy kid, but I don’t even know what to say for that. I think his momma would want him remembered for all the smiles Chris had. He put a smile on everybody’s face,” Edwards said.

Police said they are following strong leads and believe White knew the person who killed him.

“I hope somebody speaks out and hope somebody has seen enough that they can help identify somebody,” Edwards said.

Edwards said she hopes the family gets justice.
