Family, friends raise money for fire victims’ funeral
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — Pamela and Makayla Pickett were killed after the fire off of Lingo Rd. last week. Police say they believe that fire was intentionally set. Now friends of theirs have organized a fundraiser to offset some of the cost of their funerals.
Pamela was Makayla’s great aunt and took care of the girl after her mother died. Makayla was blind and suffered from other developmental disabilities. A friend of theirs gave us a glimpse into the kind of people they were.
“Pam was more of a home body. She stayed home, you know, a lot and basically just took care of Makayla and took care of her other sister Beverly and Makayla she was a social body I mean everybody that met her, there was no stranger to Makayla,” said Krystal Robbins, a friend of both victims.
Investigators have said they have a suspect but so far no arrests have been made in this fire.
