Family swim event at YWCA
WILMINGTON, NC (WWAY) — It was a chilly day outside, but for many families in Wilmington, it was a great day for a dip in the pool. The YWCA hosted its first Community Swim Day at their indoor pool.
Families and kids of all ages splashed together in the water. For five dollars per child, kids got a chance to learn a few things from swim lesson instructors. Many parents say the event was an opportunity for kids to feel more comfortable with the water.
“It’s good to have a healthy respect for the water,” says Ellen McConnell, who brought her kids to the event. “These girls are great swimmers but they also have to know when its safe to go in and what to do if they need help.”
All proceeds from the event went towards the YWCA’s “Save the Bubble Campaign,” which will help to replace the bubble currently covering the pool.
