Family wants to find and thank Marine who saved girls at Atlantic Beach

The family of a man who drowned while trying to save his two daughters caught in a rip current is now looking for the U.S. Marine who ended up saving the two girls.

Camp Lejeune posted on Facebook saying the Joy family wants to find the Marine who saved the girls on June 15 from the water at Atlantic Beach. The family would like to personally thank the Marine for his brave actions that day.

According to our affiliate WCTI, the girls’ father, Charles Austin Joy, Jr., 47, of Beaverdam, VA, died trying to save his daughters. The Carteret County News-Times reported Atlantic Beach Fire/EMS Chief Adam Snyder said Joy was in cardiac arrest when emergency personnel responded to the call on June 15.
