Family and friends remember Emmitt Irving

A memorial took place Monday night for the first anniversary of the murder of Wilmington resident Emmitt Irving.

The 26 year old was gunned down in front of his home on Grace Street. Family members and friends gathered at the Calvary Memorial Cemetery in Wilmington to remember him.

“The way he was murdered it was senseless. It’s hard because we don’t have closure yet,” said Irving’s cousin Kenyatta Clark. “The people who did this to him are not caught. It’s really hard to watch his daughter run around and play knowing that her dad is not here to see her grow up.”

Ebony Hines, Emmitt’s girlfriend said, “I feel like we’ve all been cheated. First of all her being cheated out of a father, me being cheated out of a boyfriend and he was a good father. He was a good provider.”

Family members believe they will not have any peace until someone is held responsible for Irving’s death.

Wilmington Police have offered $10,000 in reward money for information leading to an arrest and conviction.
