Family looking for closure one year after murder
BRUNSWICK COUNTY — Exactly one year ago Carla Bussard’s body was found behind an abandoned restaurant in Brunswick County. Wednesday her family is still looking for closure.
Carla Bussard’s mother and aunt drove up from Alabama Tuesday look for answers about what happened the night Carla was murdered.
According to investigators, Carla was driven to the abandoned restaurant Becky’s off Highay 211 near Supply by her acquaintance Martha Farmer.
Farmer then shot Bussard in the head and left her body. Farmer pleaded guilty to the murder and will spend at least 16 years behind bars for the crime.
Carla’s mother, Linda Lou Campbell, says without a trial, though, all of the evidence from the night of the murder won’t be released — leaving family members with a lot of questions.
Campbell said, “I will never get over this. My hurt and my pain and my love for Carla will be so strong I won’t dwell on it for the rest of my life. I will win. I will get answers, they might not be the ones I want.”
Carla’s mother says she has tried to get all of the evidence the Brunswick County district attorney’s office has on the case, but because farmer can appeal her conviction, she says the DA’s office doesn’t want to release the files.
